nvlddmkm event 14 (441 errors in the same second)

As the title states, was playing a game and both monitors went black, sound remained and I checked event viewer system log to find 441 of the exact same error with identical timestamps, error as follows

The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\00000180
CMDre 00000009 00000ffc ffffffff 00000007 00ffffff

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

It points to a driver ceasing to work/crash and recovering, I have tried DDU to clean the previous drivers (this has happened before but not to this magnitude) but to no avail, any pointers as to how to rectify? GPU is EVGA 1080ti

Sounds like the video driver crashes but does not recover??

I have a neat trick for you to try.

When the display driver crashes and doesn't recover, but you can hear the sound still and everything else seems fine (that you can't see...)

Try pressing these 4 keys at the same time.

Windows key + CTRL + SHIFT + B keys

This should reset the VGA driver sub system. Takes 1 to 3 seconds, you may hear a small boop in the speakers/headphones and see a flicker, then the driver/card should display for you.

If your in game, and you try this but doesn't seem to work, Alt Tab from the game first, then try to reset the drivers.

Good Luck!
