42inch is considered small now. expect at least 55inch.

Currently, 55", 65" and 34" ultrawide are the only QD-OLED sizes that can be bought from Samsung Display. It's currently unknown when or if other sizes will be available.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Get a TV stand, move your desk back by 2-3' extra.

 

If you're fine 2' from a 27" display then you're fine 4' from a 55" display.
