I want to exchange my xonar phoebus with a better external sound solution like the upcoming fiio e10k or the o2+odac (dont know what yet)

The only software feature i use from the phoebus is the volume leveler (makes it so the sound between applications doesnt differ as much)

Does anyone know of any good freeware or another way to get a volume lever with an external solution?

Thank you :)

Wouldn't matter what the amp can do I'd windows can do it, but before buying anything, make sure you headphones are up to par, and no M50's don't count

vmoda m100 and focal spirit professional.

So you think id be able to use windows volume leveler with the dac/amp?

Iknow you would be able too.

Neither of those headphones are hard to driver, but you could do worse I do suppose. (by no means hating you headphone choice, just stating they don't really need an amp)

you are right in this matter, but a good source can benefit them, i might just go with the e10k when it comes out.

Also sometimes an amp can really change the way a hp sounds, for good or bad. evn if its low impedance

also the 10 output impedance is actually bad for low impedance headphones.

Ever think to try them objectively off you onboard solution? (Asuming that you board was produced in the past fiveish years)

Not a problem, if you have any farther questions, feel free to ask. I, or one of the other regulars, will hop on it when we get the chance.

you're awesome, and by the way i just did like a really short, not scientific. A/B test between my motherboard and my soundcard.. and if im absolutely honest, its difficult to tell a difference between them, and i think it would be the same with a new dac/amp..

I now know how much people on headfi can hype stuff up way out of proportions. ''my stx is sooo much better than an xonar phoebus'' bs i say.

Headfi is pretty much satan in my (And others) opinion. By no means needing to be scientific, its all about what you hear anyway, I'm just here to attempt to get you to some point or another. Like I said earlier though, as long as you know what you are getting into.

No a problem, presently using my Momentum On Ear off a release date iPhone 3G. At home I have my SRH1540's off either a E07k, O2, SA-150, or my X79-UP4. I also have 7506's, SE-215. Review samples range from both M50's to A forgettable pair of TDK's. I do plan on ditching my Blose system in my Miata for something with a legitimate low end. By that's after stage 2 and a new tranny.

Edit: Most of which are pictured on my profile.

really nice, you should check out the focal spirit pros sometime, if you like the srh1540 http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/innerfidelitys-wall-fame-full-size-sealed just under the srh's :D

could you tell me, in pure honesty if you can tell the difference between the e07k and o2(with source?) sound quality wise?

I have tried them, which is why I went 1540.

Isn't really any difference, one has eq options and the other doesn't.

Human mind is an interesting thing that works in interesting ways. But what you are describing is placebo, which is the human mind attempting to justify an action. In this case a purchase of one product over a different one. Like Intel/AMD wars, Ford/Chevy, Mustard/Mayonnaise. You feel?
