Just built a PC for my little brother-in-law and its having some issues. It will randomly shut down with no error message or any warning and just black screen and fans stop spinning. Sometimes its 30 seconds after booting and sometimes he'll be playing a game for 10 minutes first, a few times it would just not power on at all. A couple times it was letting him install things without it shutting down for hours. It seemed like if it wasn't shutting down immediately it became more common once he started a game but not enough cases to where I would pin that as the cause. It also occurred with another power supply that I know works. I think I've got it narrowed down to being between the RAM or Motherboard. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics tool and it gave me the "Your computer has a memory problem" so I went to use memtest86 to get more details and see if I can find which stick has an issue but once I removed a stick to test each individually it won't boot at all and when I put them back in it wouldn't boot at all. I have double and triple checked all of the cables and they are all pushed in all the way and in their right spots and all of the drivers should be up to date. Also the motherboard was open box so that's what leads to me to assume it could also be part or all of the issue but none of the pins were bent at all so I assumed it should have been good. Just a heads up I had to head back home so I'm now 4 hours away from it so I can't really do any more hands on til I go back (I can try and direct him what to do but he's new to computers so its difficult) but I've accepted that I will have to order a replacement for something before I head back and would like to nail down which part I need to order so I can go try and get this resolved.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your brother in law's new build. I had a very similar issue when I first built my son's PC and it was a nightmare because I didn't know much back then and several people told me it was probably PSU related so I bought a new one and sadly nothing changed. It turns out it was the motherboard. Might not be the case for you but it sounds likely, since you already tested it with a working PSU. It would be great if you had a buddy who could lend you a compatible motherboard to try with your other components. Good luck!

If I understood you correctly, your pc doesn't boot at all anymore whatever Ram/Slot combination.

You checked the motherboard for bent pins with a magnifyer.

(also I'd replug everything, including gpu)

If you don't quote us, we won't know you answered

Correct, as of right now its not starting regardless of Ram/Slot combination. This started after I took one out to run the memtest86 on each one. Tried for about 10 minutes and it would occasionally spin the fans for a few seconds then stop. Yes motherboard pins were 100% good and I've unplugged and replugged everything in multiple times already.
