PC part picker is telling me that I need a  2.0 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 to USB 3.2 Gen 2 header adapter. What do they do and where can I find them? I am not familiar with USB standards.

Use this motherboard instead, has the needed headers and AFAIK is better overall than the Gigabyte while being $10 cheaper: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/KKbTwP/msi-pro-b660m-a-ddr4-micro-atx-lga1700-motherboard-pro-b660m-a-ddr4.

12600K is probably worth it over the 12600, only $35-40 more to keep the 4 e-cores. Less if you get the KF, I assume you have a dGPU planned due to the 750W power supply? If you are trying to stick hard to the $800 limit, drop the cooler and stick with the non-K chip, it should include a stock cooler that's good enough for stock operation.

Also I'd skip the W11 key and grab an iffy W10 one off eBay, mine was $7 and I've never had issues (2-3 years or so now), should work if you upgrade from W10 -> W11 as well. $120 is a significant portion of the PC budget.

The biggest critique I have of this build is that it doesn't have a dedicated GPU, especially since it's totally possible to fit one in an $800 system.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Gj2dH2

  1. For just gaming, the 12100F is about as fast as the 12600, but down two cores and half the price.
  2. I'd want a better motherboard, the B660M Gaming X AX is a pretty good board for $10 more that still has WiFi if you need it (if you don't lower that to the B660M-A Pro).
  3. Go for a cheaper RAM kit
  4. 1TB is really as little as you can have for a gaming PC nowadays. 500GB goes real fast
  5. RX 6600 is a pretty good GPU for $330. The 6600XT is better for only $40 more, but this budget it a little too tight to fit that in. If you can save up though, that's a pretty good upgrade.
  6. Go for a cheaper case
  7. Go for a cheaper PSU that won't blow up (the GP750GM is known for exploding, see Gamers Nexus)
  8. You can get a Windows 10/11 key for $20 from a key reseller. Go there, don't spend $120 on Windows, especially on this budget.

There are different motherboard headers for the various types of front panel usb ports. Specifically USB 2.0, USB 3.2 type 1, and USB-C. Generally USB 2.0 front panel ports have a black center and USB 3.2 type 1 have a blue center.

The USB adapter issues are better solved with a properly equipped motherboard.

Get a better PSU. A 750W would only be needed if you plan to get a GPU like the RTX 3070 or higher.

Though youll need to go used cause 800$ isnt much for a new gaming system, though only 1-2 gens behind current gen stuff

You can choose to futureproof and stick with a decent igpu for now and increase igpu performance with igpu oc to 2300-2400 at 1.3-1.4v soc and ram can be pushed to 4500+ cl18 ~1.6v though go watch buildzoid on how to oc your ballistix

Or you can choose to go buy 1-2 gens or even current gen used and get a dgpu, if you go this route minimum rx 6600/3060 cause no point going for an even lower end gpu. You may even wanna buy a full used build if you can get a good deal on one and upgrade the gpu, stick with amd here since b450 are pretty cheap used, same goes for used ryzens, also get a case under 30$ or something and if it has terrible airflow run w/o sidepanel, basically get everything used except storage cause that has limited lifespan, gpu wise you may be able to find a good deal on an older highend card but 6600/3060 are decent options of you go new gpu

I updated my list to include a 1TB SSD, switched to the 12600K, got a cheaper RAM kit, Motherboard that doesn't need adapters, and a 650W power supply since i'm not planning on getting a dGPU immediately, and I removed the windows key since I am probably going to get a iffy Win 10 key or go Linux.
