I have an HP Pavilion 15-au009tx (i7-6500U. GeForce 940MX, 8GB DDR4-2133) and the screen won't turn on. As in no backlight or anything. No light on the caps lock key, etc but the power button lights up and the fans/HDD turn on. The fan speed doesn't change at all and I don't hear much HDD activity, which leads me to believe it doesn't get to Windows. Did the following troubleshooting:

I tried plugging in an external monitor but got no signal.

I opened up the laptop and checked all the connections.

Also tried moving the memory to the other slot, and in this situation the screen remained off but the caps lock button showed a memory error code.

Removed the CMOS battery and put it back after a while.

Is this a dead GPU? Since the CPU has integrated graphics I thought it would still at least display something or turn on the screen. What else could this be?
