So i am thinking about getting into streaming and have a few questions about it; also dont know if the software forums are the best place to ask. But this was my best guess on an appropriate place to ask. Anyway

Question 1: I dont have the greatest hardware espically in terms of cpu for streaming, i'm running a core i5-10600k, 16 GB of some DDR4-3200 Trident Z RGB RAM, so just wondering if that would be fine to play games and stream?

Question 2: i'm aware SLOBS is a CPU hog but makes plugins like overlays easy things like that so should i use that, or use OBS studio for the better cpu usage? Or are there any better free streaming/recording software which has at least a little more efficent CPU ussage with things like plugins being easy?

Question 3: I am also planning on streaming some console games cause there are some console only games, and some games im simply better at on console, i would like to stream, any capture card reccomndations?

Question 4: Lastly i dont have an audio solution, like a mix amp but i want to be able to use 1 microphone and 1 pair of headphones to listen to pc and ps5 audio at the same time. How should i go about doing this without something expensive like a GoXLR? Or would a capture card solve this issue no problem?

All answers to all questions and or some questions would help a lot! Thx! 😆

Let's group these together. First of all, what is your GPU? If it's pretty new Nvidia, you can use NVENC and be done with most of the fears for CPU becoming issue.

Secondly, you can do almost all of the things in SL with regular OBS. Latter just requires more manual labour. So question becomes, as starting streamer, what is the stuff you actually need and want to have?

Again, this comes down to what you actually want. Just "console" can be anything from GameCube to PS5. Though you seem to answer that in #4. If there are some consoles you want to use that aren't HDMI compatible, that would have effect. But for now, anything from Elgato or Avermedia with 4k HDMI support is what you are looking for.

HDMI will carry audio to capture card. You can set OS main audio device to listen to other audio sources. You can also use software solutions like Voicemeeter Banana. AFAIK it's somewhat paid software, but I don't remember to what extent free features are.

So there are two ways to this. Either upgrade as you go, first seeing if streaming is what you want to do. Or get everything now with careful planning and maybe spend money on stuff you don't even use.
