Hey, everyone. With the recent death of my laptop occurring as I was going to upgrade consoles, I've decided it's more economically sensible to build a PC that can play games rather than buy a new laptop and a next/current/whatever-the-hell generation console. I think I've done alright so far, but having never done this before, I don't suppose I have much to lose asking people with experience. If it helps, I'll be using it primarily for web browsing, and games. I already have a monitor and more audio equipment then I have any right to own.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Slips_Perfidy/saved/4pT7

Here's the build I've compiled so far. I believe everything is compatible. What are the short-comings of the build (if nothing is incompatible)? If I were going to SLI another 760 later down the line, what would I need to change now?

I'm curious if I should get the FX-6300 as opposed to the 4300. I was under the impression that fewer cores, in general, were better for gaming, as there aren't any games really optimized to take advantage of the higher number of cores.

Thanks for any help, guys.

AMD has more cores but their cores are not as powerfull as intel's cores, and thus i would def go with a 6300 as the 4300 is really underpowered

An FX 4300 is fine for now, but will be a problem in the future as games such as Watch Dogs and BF4 do take advantage of AMD's 6 and 8 Cores. Eventually, Intel will also come on board with 6 and 8 core CPUs, and most games will use 6 and 8 Cores. For the sake of future-proofing, spend the extra $10 and get the FX 6300.

Get a friend with windows os oem to install it for you, get a cheap 10$ mouse from target or walmart.

Your previous build couldn't SLI because

A you didnt choose a mobo period -_-

b your wattage on your psu was too low.

Generally SLI and OC takes around 650 watts.

While this build doesn't have an SSD you can buy a better mouse and SSD down the road as your first upgrade

Then SLI and add in two more sticks of 4gb memory.

I'm sure plenty of "pros" swear by different equipment. It comes down to what feels right in YOUR hand.

That seems conventionally wise enough for me. Thanks, I think I'll elect to go with your build, or at least use your build as a foundation for mine.

I like most of this build, however I would get the 1tb WD Blue. It's like $5 more for double the space.

The optical drive is borderline useless.

I'd also cheap out on the mouse and get a solid SSD. It's a much, much bigger pain in the ass to replace an HDD with an SSD, swapping your OS etc than it is to simply unplug a mouse.

Avoid that power supply and get something of quality. It's the heart of your computer, and realistically should be one of the higher investment areas.

I understand it is only slightly more expensive to get a 1TB HDD, but I could damn near fit every file I have on a 120 gig SSD. It just doesn't seem practical to invest in space that I doubt I'd ever use.

I'll ditch the mouse for now, but I'm not sure if I can include an SSD. My budget is around 850-950$.

What PSU do you recommend? This is one area I'm totally clueless in.

Thanks, bud.

Just make sure you match up the wattage of your PSU and your Mobo features with your plans for the future

You need to make sure your Mobo supports the CPU RaM and SLI .

Your PSU needs to have a little headroom for SLI Config (around 700ws+) is fine.

Psu get a semi-modular bronze silver gold or platinum as well as 700w+

the one i picked is a good choice

120gb SSD's are only about $80. Samsung Evo is the one I'd go with.

If you play a lot of games think of it this way; newer games are going to take more space. Figure 50+ GB per title. It adds up quickly.

Do you download movies or music at all? They rapidly add up too. I never thought I'd fill my 2tb external, but it's already getting pretty close.

I'd go with a brand like Corsair (excellent warranty and support), EVGA (same as Corsair) or Seasonic.

There are of course other brands, and some of their PSU's are great, but generally everything from these guys is solid.

I'd recommend reading reviews before purchasing something. Don't blindly trust what you read on a forum. It's a great place to get ideas, but doing your own research as well will pay off in the end.

This site's a great way to figure out how much power you should try and get.

I usually go one or two steps above their recommendation.

You can usually find sales on PSU's. I just picked up a replacement one for 60% off from NCIX.

Theres tons of people who've purchased this an were happy with thr results. While its not the worlds best psu it certainly isnt bad for the price. You'd pay an extra 20-30 for a great quality 700watt. (I will go double check for his sake but im on my phone so it might take a little)

It has a pretty low rating on PCPP, and in general the brand is garbage.

A quality Corsair or Seasonic unit is only $40 more. An EVGA can be had for a mere $15 more.

When buying a power supply you should get a quality unit. A bad PSU can take other items with it when it dies. It's also a royal PITA to replace all the cables.

So far, all that I've done is nix the optical drive, drop the GPU to a 760 and add your newly recommended PSU, which most reviews regard quite highly. I still haven't decided whether or not go SSD out of the gate or later, but I'll come to it.

No worries about the phone, man. You guys have helped a ton.
