USB lockup?

8 year old PC

Intel I5, MS WIN10

MB ASUS P8277-V-PRO

8GM RAM

 

My wirless keyboard and mouse stop working. Dongle is plugged into a USB 3.0

Power cycle fixed the issue but happened again, unplugged dongle , reinstalled, no good

Moved dongle to a USB 2.0 and it worked, moved back to 3.0 and it did not work.

Power cycle and the 3.0 USB worked again

This has happened several times.

What would cause the USB 3.0 to stop working? Motherboard??

Could be a motherboard issue, if you connect something else like a USB thumb drive to that port does it stop working sometimes too?

You can keep it in the 2.0 anyway, 3.0 is not necessary for keyboard / mouse. Maybe the dongle doesn't like usb3.0.

I've had the dongle in the 3.0 port for about a year with no issues until recently. Good to learn that 2.0 is good enough for mouse and keyboard
