Radeon 6600 with i3-10105F?

Mister Woof

Thinking of upgrading my TV gaming system's GPU from the 4gb RX 570 which struggles at 1080p now to something with some more oomph.

Can get a Radeon 6600 for $379 and a 6600XT for $479.

Think either would be bad for that CPU? It's only PCIE3, which may or may not matter as they all seem to have sufficient VRAM.

PCIe isn't an issue for 6600 (XT).

Should pair well with a 10105F, but you may see CPU bottlenecks if you run at 1080p low, but that should still give good fps and definitely better than a 570.

If the 6600 XT is in your budget that should be the better option. Have you looked at the price for a 3060?

I agree that the 6600XT would be the better option. The 3060 often sells for roughly the same price as the 6600XT, but is a slightly worse performer, even with the extra VRAM.

My understanding on the 6600/XT is they are PCIE4x8, which would run at PCIE3x8, which won't really matter too much anyway at this performance level and with this VRAM buffer. Seems it becomes an issue when you need to go to system RAM where the interface comes into play more significantly.

3060 is around $550; it's mostly comparable to the 6600 but it's significantly more expensive.

Overall, it's a relatively low priority system, but I got a new TV and have been spending more time on it lately 🤣

And before anyone's asked...yes I have tried streaming from my main system...it's....okay. I prefer having the actual local hardware.

OR should I just be dumb and drop in an 11400F in there along with the 6600XT.....PCIE4 worries and CPU bottlenecks generally non-issue at that point.

TV supports 1080p or 1440p at 120hz, 4k 60hz only. With the 6600XT + 11400 I could do those 1080p numbers...

Really up to you, the RX 6600 is significantly more powerful than the RX 570 that you have, providing that your CPU isn't a bottleneck (depends on game engine used) you ought to see an improvement in framerate even at 1080P.

That your CPU is 4C/8T doesn't mean it's the end of the world, 4C/8T is still pretty useful.....hey, it's better than those crappy 4C/4T i5's, right? I have a HTPC with an i7 4770K (4C/8T) and it's still decent enough for gaming, played Godfall at 4K (FSR 1.0 at Quality preset) with my GTX 1080.

IF you think the 100 bucks premium the RX 6600 XT is worth it over the RX 6600, it's fine as well as the RX 6600 XT is a fair bit more powerful than the RX 6600. Without DLSS and FSR, the raw RT performance of the RX 6600 XT is about the same as the RTX 3060. Don't forget that AMD has slated FSR 2.0 (an improved version of FSR 1.0) and only RX 5000/6000 series cards would be able to leverage the new tech.

Again, when it comes down choosing between the RX 6600 or RX 6600 XT, it's entirely up to you and your usage scenario. Me? I'm something of an AMD fanboy, so I'd take the RX 6600 XT over its slightly weaker sibling.
