So I will start with I am not extremely tech savvy, I am more of motorcycle than computer guy. Well I bought my 13 year old a used computer at a local flea market yesterday. They wanted to play a game called Overwatch with classmates so i picked this up. The guy who sold it to me said this was a good enough computer for it. Said it was an i9 with gt2080 and 16 ram.

So she went to play the game after we bought it and she got disconnected from the service and received and email saying she was banned for cheating. She was playing the game for 10 mins and does not have the knowledge or ability to cheat in a game. After asking on their forums I was told it was an HWID ban and that we would need to buy a new computer.

Just looking for some help, as i just spent $1500 on this computer.

This is a pretty tough problem to deal with, depending on what they're using for a hardware ID determines what you can do. If they're simply using the MAC address (a globally unique ID that's assigned to your network adapter from the factory) for the hardware ID, then its pretty easy to spoof or even get a cheap network card and use that. But things get more complicated if they're looking at other hardware to generate an ID. Without knowing for sure what's being used to generate that ID, its hard to give you solid advice.

I appreciate the answer.  I was told to change the motherboard, processor and the videocard. At that point I should just buy a new computer.   I am going to contact Blizzard to see if there is anything I can do for my daughter. I figure the old owner must have been up to something

Should be a lesson to not buy used computers at fleamarkets perhaps considering you could have bought a better pc for that money or less new?

i get it you probably didnt know that, hence im serious about it being hopefully a lesson.
