Hello there!
I bought a SSD from marketplace but when i insert it into my laptop it turns out to be password protected (see attached image). The seller is not responding anymore. I don’t want the data on the disk, only use the ssd.

When I try to install Windows it won’t recognize the ssd on the install screen.

Same for when I try to run diskpart, it won’t show up in the disk list.

When I try to change the password in BIOS it asks for the old pass first.

Help would be much appreciated!

get a usb enclosure and hotplug it in when you're in the OS.

also, for future reference... dont buy second hand storage devices. it's not worth the risk.

(dont know where it's been, what's been on it, what it's been trough)

Is this the only option? I really don’t want to spend more money because i don’t have very much .. 😞

Well, the seller scammed you. That's the ATA security lock. I highly doubt you're getting past that on an SSD. I'll do some digging.

This seems like it might be something you could read through, though it will require putting the drive in an enclosure and using another PC.

First of all thanks for helping!
He built his own circuit with a soldering kit and different parts and bruteforced the pass.. I want hoping for a more straightforward solution.
I don’t really want to access the ssd, just need to format it to use it for myself, but the drive doesnt show up in Windows install..

Yes, it is locked at a firmware level so unless you get creative (that article) or have the password, that drive is a paperweight.
