Overclocking AMD GPU questions

The first question is what program to use for it on Linux. Am using PopOS. I tried looking it up on Google and saw someone talk about a command line based program, which I'd rather not have to mess with. Would prefer one with an actual interface.

 

My GPU is a 6900 xt and honestly I never had an AMD GPU before this one. I'm familiar with overclocking Nvidia ones with MSI afterburner, but not sure if you would go about it the same way with AMD ones, going off what I heard long ago. On Windows I just use the auto OC feature with the Radeon software.

I'd probably recommend just doing the OC in BIOS

Personally, that's good enough for overclocking besides using software such as MSI Afterburner to overclock manually. With these modern GPUs with GPU boost from both sides, AMD and Nvidia, I would let the software decide what is best unless you plan on going LN2 overclocking.

Problem is I can't (don't think) can use Radeon software to do that with PopOS. I have the amdgpu and Mesa drivers, but the thing I've seen mentioned by a lot of folks in Linux related videos on this subject have said you don't want to use the proprietary AMD drivers on Linux.

One thing I do want to ask about when it comes to ocing an AMD GPU, when it comes to the 6900 xt what numbers should I shoot for?

 

I used to always have Nvidia gpus. Previously with my 3080 before I sold it to a friend of mine I could typically only got around 30-40 on the core, but with the memory I could get 300 (went a bit conservative, wanting to be sure I'd have stability)

To set the kernel parameter, edit the grub config file with sudo nano /etc/default/grub. Find GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= and put amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff inside the quotes. The order of what's inside the quotes doesn't matter. Save and exit the file with the ctrl+x keys, then run sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg so that the changes are applied. Restart the computer and you should have a ton more options in Corectrl. 

 

Report back any errors, like the command nano not being found, or anything else. 

I got it set up, and Corectrl is showing the extra options.
