So my friend's looking to make a $700 CAD gaming rig. He wants to be able to run games like COD/BF on high settings off of one monitor. The rig will also need to be wifi compatible.

All builds are appreciated, thanks!

*Note* He won't be overclocking at all, but he might add in a 2nd or better GPU later on.

Peripherals not needed.

*Note* If possible leave room for upgrades

He needs to save more money to get a quality CAD and gaming rig. $850 is about the minimum, with $1000 being much better not only for today, but the future as well.  It all depends on the Graphics Card, he needs the best graphics card that he can afford.  Does he live near a MicroCenter?  Does he have a monitor? OS? Peripherals?

CAD is a computer program for engineering and design.  It is very CPU heavily.

"Computer-Aided Design"

He should have added in a comma to better express his needs because I misunderstood what he meant.  He needs a larger budget.

I've seen $500 builds run Cod on high. I was asking on opinions on what parts to get, I know the budget is enough for its needs.

GPU impacts performance more than any other component.  You want to spend as much as possible on your GPU, 40%-50%.  Check out this review that shows how capable the X4 750K is.  X760k is even better!

You're an idiot if you want to set the guy up with a $100 case on a $700 budget.  Ya, lets spend 15% on a part that doesn't impact performance--Brilliant!!!  Also your RAM has only half a heat spreader...

Was not saying that is the build I was going with, I was pointing out that even his build would run COD and other games on high. I'm aware he spent way to much on certain parts when this is a gaming oriented rig

I don't think he intended CAD as in the program therefore he did not need the comma. He meant that his friend wants $700 gaming build using Canadian currency. He does not need a bigger budget.

Now regarding the build. It looks good and makes sense, but his friend might add a 2nd GPU or replace the existing one and IF he does, then the CPU will bottleneck. Normally I would say get a better CPU like FX - 6300 in order to allow for the potential GPU upgrade. The build would be a little bit worse now, but it would cost way less to upgrade the build later, because it would only need a new GPU. IMO this build depends on the likelihood of the GPU getting an upgrade.

First of all, don't call him an idiot. Now regarding the build. If you use 15% of your budget on a part that does nothing for performance, you are bound to get called some names.  His budget is in Canadian Dollar, he absolutely needs a larger budget if he wants it to be upgrade-friendly like you suggested.  I posted two builds, the first being more upgrade-ready, the 2nd giving him the best possible performance for today. Changed to CAD.
