There is no official reason why given. Its speculated its 2 reasons, A) to better align with intel offerings, and B) to setup for suspected new chips launching soon. But again, its all speculation with zero confirmation from AMD.

They were dropped to be competitive with the 12th gen cpus that were launched. The only 4 new chips coming out at all in the next bit will be the 5800x3D, 5700x, and potentially two lower budget 5000 series chips. Expect the 7000 series (since they did a laptop series of 6000 chips its expected they are skipping it like they did 4000) to be end of year if not next year.

I think Hardware Unboxed contacted AMD and they confirmed it's no official price drop from AMD. It's the retailers, probably to make them more compelling compared to Alder Lake.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Just to clarify; the situation is that the Intel Alder Lake, (12th Gen) CPUs released late last year offer better performance for cheaper, that's basically it. See any comparison reviews:

Now that the 5600X is just $229, that's not the case. Sure, the 12400F is just $180, but you can get B550 boards for $50 cheaper than B660 ones, which nullifies the price advantage. Plus, the 5600X is a bit faster and unlocked for OC.

ya i read this somewhere online. it's the retailers that dropped the price. partly because that since it's not an "official" price drop, they can always raise the prices any time if necessary.

so the price will probably drop even more when more new cpu's are released, but the price for am4 mobo will probably go higher, since that's always the case: old cpu price goes down, but old mobo price goes up.

some said it's because cpu are smaller, easier for storage, so retailers buy more of them, or the manufacturers produce more of them, than mobo's.
