Hey guys, i just want to get a post going about people experiences with windows 8 and drivers. i myself have had serious problems with windows 8 corrupting itself, refusing to connect to the net and failing to display any video past boot. this has resulted in me loosing all my files (i do back up my important stuff like my music collection and documents) within these files was the 200gb worth of installed games. and with my internet being capped at 150gb a month. its going to take 4-5 months to download all my games from steam again.

so if you have anything you'd like to share or would like to ask me about windows 8 driver errors feel free to do so.

Oh I had this problem... with Windows XP with my old old computer: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.2GHz, 4GB of RAM, nForce 4.

Your SATA controller isn't set to AHCI mode (see BIOS), OR/AND your SATA controller isn't supported by Windows 8. So you need to get teh extracted drivers on a disk or USB memory key, and load them up at Windows 8 Setup.

When you get to this screen:

win7install-090205-6.png

(well this a Windows 7 picture, but it's the same in Windows 8), you want to click on "Load driver" blue link, and select your SATA driver *.ini file.

Remember: As Windows isn't install, it can't open exe files. So, your drivers NEEDS to be extracted. Usually on your SATA controller or motherboard manufacture site you can find them zipped. Unzip them on a USB key or disk, and then you'll be ready to load them.
