So I should put the OS X SSD on a Sata II port with my HDD and the RAID 0 SSDs on Sata III?

 

Will I need to do anything with my data if I put the already loaded up SSD in RAID 0?

Yes, this is the way to go.

 

I can't tell you, I only know how it works, not what you need to do to use it, since I only have two separate drives in my current system,  my only system.

Hi! I am going to install OS X on my 250GB SSD and then get another 120GB SSD as Windows storage and run my current one and that one in RAID 0, but I don't have enough Sata III ports, will this decrease speeds by a lot? Will I need to reinstall everything on my current drive to put them in RAID? If so, I might not even do it.

Just put the HDD on a different port (I'm guessing SATA III 3gb/s) and put the SSD's on the SATA III 6gb/s ports?  If you want to do a RAID configuration, they'll need to be running through the same controller.

You have two SSDs for the two ports, plug the HDD in one of the others, it doesn't matter what it is, you'll be able to access it, just as long as it's through the same controller.

It won't work, they're different controllers

You have the GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD4H? It has 4 SATA III connectors. 2 are running off the chipset, the others are off of a Marvell controller. Ports 6/7 are GSATA III ports running off of a Marvell controller. They're a bit shit in comparison to the Intel ports, but should be faster than the SATA II speeds, just make sure the driver is up to date.

Umm, not a problem.  I hope it works, my knowledge is all theory, I haven't actually done any RAID configurations.

Port 1: RAID SSD 2

 

Port 2: NONE

Yep! But Keep in mind, they're slow. Not necessarily as slow as SATA II, but slow. Your SSD will be bottlenecked by the controller (and you won't be able to use the back eSATA ports, but who uses eSATA?).

 

My suggestion would be to put the less-used device on there, probably the OS X single drive (unless OSX needs to be on the Intel controller? Hmm...) since the controller would nullify any benefits of your sexy new RAID 0. You can really put the HDD anywhere you want, as they don't actually surpass SATA II speeds. You can put it in the GSATA if you want to, but I might put it in the Intel SATA II port as the chipset controller has a lower potential to give you issues.
