Optimal GPU for 6700K

I am still rocking a 6700K and now think about upgrading my GPU. Right now I have a GTX1080 but for some games it just doesn't cut it anymore (1440p/75Hz Monitor). My question now is, what the 'optimal' GPU for the 6700K would be, before the CPU becomes a bottleneck.

Was thinking about the 2060 Super. Or could I even go higher maybe? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You already have the optimal card for the cpu, and there's no sense "upgrading" to a card with the same, similar or worse performance.

In fact, there probably are cases where the CPU bottlenecks even that 1080.

2060 Super is about par, if not worse than the 1080.
Each generational improvement, the rough equality is 00xx drops by 10.

Eg 1080 ~ 2070 ~ 3060 in terms of performance. 

As for your question. I'd aim for a used 2080 Super/Ti as people find their 3080. Absolutely great card for 1440p/60fps+ gaming and would pair great with your CPU. I personally rock a 2080 Super running 3x 1080p which is almost 2x the pixels driven as a single 1440p display, or exactly 75% of 4k. I call it my 3k setup lol

Thank you for your quick replies! Helped out a lot. In that case I will stick with my 1080 for now, and save some more until I can upgrade my whole rig, once 6th gen ryzen and GPUs become more available again. maybe 2026 =)

Consider upgrading your CPU, MBO and maybe the RAM (if you have 16GB or less). That would give you a nice boost in smoothness and general pc snappiness.

a 2080/3060TI or 2080TI/3070 will be optimal with that cpu at 6700K

and you could use one of them in your new pc (when you'll get one)

Yeah your CPU isn't the bottleneck.  It's your monitor (not a problem, 75hz looks great IMO).  I'm using a 6600 (pretty close in GPU performance) with a 3440x1440 75hz monitor and most games are already running at it's refresh rate.  If a specific game isn't hitting 75fps, you could use a faster GPU as skylake cores are still plenty fast, but you'd be buying an expensive part to make a marginal change in only a few games.  I'd just stick with what you have and save your money for vacation.
