WOW! All I had to do was reset the registry for windows audio services.

Restore Default Services in Windows 10 | Tutorials (tenforums.com)

I hope this helps everyone else suffering from the same issue

SFC scannow didn't help, windows update did nothing, everything is just bruh.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Speakers/headphones connected? Faulty speakers/headphones? Improper connection (like using a 4-pole connector on a jack that supports only 3-pole)?

HDMI and onboard sound don't work. My secondary display is a TV and when I switch to an empty channel it does the static thing and the sound works fine - which may point to a software related issue. I've tried everything.

you might be having a windows error, if it is possible and you have a spare one handy like a HDD or SSD attempt to install windows on it and try to see if the sound works like that if it doesn't you might be having a hardware issue or incompatibility issue give it a go if you can and see what happens 🙂

I will try updating my windows because it seems like it has an audio update from realtek. Gonna give that a go before going scorched earth

If it's over HDMI, you have to have the appropriate GPU drivers. Which GPU?

And the HDMI is plugged into the 1650, not the onboard?

It's a laptop, I'm plugging it into the only HDMI port it has. One day I boot up the computer and boom, no sound regardless of whether it's the TV speaker or the built-in laptop speaker.

Are you using the sound driver from the manufacturers site and not a generic one? A laptop has a lot of proprietary drivers that are not universal

There are 3 different sound devices here. Realtek, Intel Audio and Nvidia Audio. I've never had an issue with these and even if I installed new drivers for each nothing shows up in the volume mixer. I use the troubleshooter and it tells me this. I have both audio services running but they do not seem to be doing anything.

I've also done pretty much everything stated in this guide here: How to fix "audio services not responding" on Windows 10 - Troubleshooting Central

I don't usually keep restore points so I cannot do a system restore. All the necessary audio services are running but yet there is still nothing in the volume mixer. I am pulling my hair out.
