Need Help with New PC

Go to solution Solved by RONOTHAN##,

Unless what you're doing really likes AMD CPUs, you're better off going Alder Lake. The 12400 is marginally faster in most workloads and costs $100 less.

Went Alder lake. I'm guessing you're going for an all white build so I tried to match that with the other components (given it doesn't cost a crazy amount extra).

Replaced the cooler for one LGA 1700 compatible, though I would personally ditch it and just run the Intel Stock cooler, it's plenty for a 12400.

Swapped the RAM, 3600CL18 RGB is $1 more and a bit faster, though if you don't care about RGB Crucial Ballistix memory would be a better call.

Added a 2TB HDD because 500GB goes really fast.

Swapped the fans for a 5 pack because it's actually cheaper than getting 3 separately. With the $5, get a USB to fan adapter and just point them at yourself, or use them as spares in case one dies.

Budget (including currency): $1200 USD

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Overwatch, Valorant, Warzone, League, Minecraft, Python

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Thoughts on my current parts list? Ideal Gaming PC - Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core, Radeon RX 6600 8 GB EAGLE, Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

so for the cpu would it be worth it to get a 5600G instead? It's $50 less and has integrated graphics

It's also ~20% slower. Unless you're actually gonna be gaming on the iGPU it does not currently make sense to go for a G series CPU from AMD. Plus, the 12400 is still $50 less than the 5600G and is faster than it, plus it still has an iGPU (admittedly not one you want to game off of, but you're getting a GPU so it doesn't matter).

when I said $50 less I meant compared to the 5600X btw

I assumed. The 5600G is just not worth the money unless you're going to use if for gaming since it performs about 20% slower than the 5600X, plus in order to take full advantage of it you need to spend extra on faster RAM. For reference, it performs about as well as the last generation 3600, which while a fine CPU is definitely outclassed by newer chips and not worth the asking price.
