So I’ve just upgraded from an i9 9000k overclocked to 4.4ghz with 32gb ddr4 3200mhz on an aorus master motherboard over to a stock i9 12900k 32gb ddr5 5600mhz on a aorus pro motherboard both have been paired with a rtx 3090. Corsair 850w gold+ PSU.

my issue that has arisen is I can be playing a game and the pc randomly rams the fans up on the gpu and crashes the system.

now I’m no newbie to this world having 17 years in the tech world of support and I’m actually lost on what’s causing it.

I’ve done a full clean install of windows, bios update and drivers to the latest possible.

turned off xpm on the memory, turned it on too no difference.

temps while gaming with a fan speed of 60% hit only 71c max on the gpu. And the cpu sits at 60c max. With no overclocked on either system.

many ideas?

I see your PSU is technically above spec but with your overclocked CPU I wonder if you are drawing too much power for a very brief amount of time.

Does event viewer-> windows logs-> system show any errors around the time of the crash, any critical or error level logs?

Try a super CMOS clear to undo all overclocks: Remove the power cable and pop out battery, hold down the power button for one minute.

There is no overclocks on the cpu setup purely keeping it stock as I don’t know much about overclocking these P+E cores

ive done a full bios clear and reset in the settings too like you mentioned. While playing I’ve used hardware monitor to monitor temps, and power draw.

max draw on the cpu while gaming has been 100Watts And the gpu was 348Watts

i get a kernel power critical error but no info on as to what it is. I’ve also seen cores being parked due to firmware apparently which I’ve not seen before.

oddly my friend on a 11th gen system gets the same issue on his 3080 system with the same game.

Is it more the one game?

Do you have the newest stable BIOS?

And what is the exact board name? IIRC some 12th gen CPUs were getting some gameplay problems among other things.

But I assume you have the new or close to newest windows updates and game patches: https://dotesports.com/hardware/news/intel-has-fixed-the-12th-gen-alder-lake-drm-issues

multiple games. its the aorus pro v1 for DDR5 12th gen board, i was on F7 which was the latest until 2 days ago so ill update to the new one now and see if that makes any odds. its only a memory compatibility update though.
