Correcting sagging GPU caused massive heating

Hi! I tried supporting my old Gefore GTX 970 because it is sagging. It is slightly twisted and the end of the card is almost 1cm lower than the mounting point. I used a small piece of cardboard which leveled the card from the outermost corner. It didn't block the fans or airflow, but when I started playing the temperature spiked to 83,2 C (general) and 97,3 C (hotspot) when it was only 53,3 C/ 67,3C before moving the card. I loaded the same save game under similar load each time. I used CPUID HW monitor for recording temps, and it happened every time I tried preventing the sagging. Switching ports for the card didn't change anything, and I've used the same setup for almost 10 years now. Just wondering can anyone explain why correcting a sagging GPU caused sudden heating and is the sagging a problem in itself after all?

Are you supporting it from the shroud or the PCB?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I positioned the support to touch only the shroud's outermost corner, but I didn't see any change in the gap between it and the pcb. Probably best to leave it be until I can get a new build.

Easy.  It's being lifted ever so slightly off from the die. Might need to re-paste your card. Or maybe tightening of the HSF bracket on the back of the GPU might help as well.

Thanks for pointing it out. I re-pasted my card and the temps were lowered by 3 degrees C. No screws were loose so that wasn't causing any problems.
