Should i replace my thermal paste?

MingLee420

I've been testing my cpu for quite a while now and it seems that it's a bit hotter than it should be.

I have a 10700k undervolted to 1.236 vcore 4.9ghz all core and 45 ring ratio, i have a cooler master h500 with all fans at 100 percent and the cpu cooler fan's and did a cinebench r23 test and reached a max of 86c with 173 watts on the cpu while my room was 25c and other people have low 70's high 60's on the cpu but i am using stock thermal paste that came with my cooler so im not sure if i should replace it with something better like kryonaut or noctua paste

Main:

  • CPU
    10700k 5ghz All core 47 ring ratio 1.275v
  • Motherboard
    MSI Z590 A Pro
  • RAM
4x8 viper steel samsung bdie: 4200-17-17-30

Most stock paste is good enough, in your casr you may get 2-5c difference with a swap. Personally I'd remount first to see if it's just the mounting pressure or coverage is bad. What's the hottest vs coolest core when you are testing?

did another test and the hottest core was 85c and the lowest was 79

that's not the worst delta but definitely wider than it would be with a good mount.

Give the cooler a twist and tighten up the mount a bit, which cooler is it anyway?

you should be around the high 60's for sure. It sucks to have to remount but I would pull the cooler and remount the mount hardware on the motherboard, it's possible one of the screws is cross threaded and didn't go in fully.

with the springs on the cooler half of the mount they need to go until the screw stops, the springs provide the tension on the cooler.

damn yeah did a r20 benchmark is well and was 10c hotter than some other guy with a dark rock pro 4 and stock settings which would probably be 1.310 vcore which is way higher than mine. I'll try and get some new thermal paste this week just to make sure

Who are you comparing against? If you average 170W:s, under 90C sounds normal. You have to remember most people are morons when it comes to computers or testing coolers.

I am getting an o11 air mini soon and it looks like its a whole 5c lower on the cpu with the stock fan config compared to my case on gamersnexus so that would probably be good enough although thats not the main reason im getting it for also after you posting i checked ltt's 11900k review which was the worst cpu and seeing it compared the 10900k. The 10900k was drawing the same 180 watts as my 10700k but ltt was on blender with 78c on open air with a nh d15 which makes me realise i think my cpu is perfectly fine as i have unlimited the power my cpu can draw also i cant believe an 11600k can draw 200 watts makimg it around 90c with the best air cooler
