Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Ryzen 3700x and rtx 3070 or Ryzen 5800x and rtx 3060ti? Gaming at 1080p.

has to be exclusively those two choices? what about a 5600x+rtx 3070? or 12600/12400+3070? if i had to pick from just those two, 3700x+3070 imo

Well it is between these two, price for both is the same.

100% I'd go for the 3700X and RTX 3070. That was my setup for a while and it was pretty beefy in its own right.

 

Games are more likely to be GPU limited than CPU limited (save for a few cases), and the 3700X is an extremely capable Zen 2 chip that trades blows with the 5600X.

Guys I went for the Ryzen 3700x option and am not happy. The cinebench r23 score for single core is just 1039 and is limiting my rtx 3070. Please help.
