Cable Needed

Hi

A friends is asking if his old Dell desktop that has Display Port can be connected to his TV's HDMI, do I need a certain flavour of cable like HDMI 1.0 to DP 12.98364547 for example?

Display port to HDMI adapters are pretty inexpensive, I have one running from my rx480 to my tv and it works pretty well. I have it for the locking connector, too many troubleshooting days where the cable was like .25mm unplugged and I never noticed.

So you cant just buy a cable DP to HDMI you have to get an adapter then? have you got a link to an adapter so I don't mess up

Output on the Dell is DP1.2 or 1.4?

I just got one from Wal-Mart, you CAN get cables that have HDMI on one end and DP on the other, but I prefer legit adapters vs hoping that it's wired well and correctly so that you can use a good HDMI cable since DP is more of a guarantee to be not shit since it's a more niche connector vs HDMI. The adapter I have does 1080p 60hz.

I've seen so many clients trying to use those DP to HDMI cables and many straight up don't work.

Yeah I have had an issue with the cable like that for something I was trying to achieve hence why I thought I should ask for my friend, but I am still in the dark as to what an adapter looks like, any links?

This is the one I'm using and don't have any complaints yet. Not much in what version standard it uses, I'm guessing it's probably not HDMI 1.4 or DP 1.4...
