Hello everyone,

I want to become a hosting reseller. I'm just looking for some information on what exactly is involved in setting this up from someone who has done it before.

I've got great knowledge of how the hosting systems / features work, but what is required to actually attract people who would buy it from me? What's a good place to advertise the service once I set it up? I was also wondering if I need to state to the customers somewhere where I purchase the hosting from? Any other information that I need to know is welcome.

I have resellers hosting from Namecheap, I've had it for ages and I've been using it just by myself and for a few friends. Just got it for the extra power I suppose. It has 25 Cpanel accounts, 30gb storage and unlimited SQL databases.

One issue I do have with Namecheaps plan is that AutoSSL is just disabled with no way of enabling it. To get that I would have to spend more money on a VPS plan instead of Reseller hosting. They claim it's a technical limitation but in reality it's clearly a money grab.

I can't think of anything else I could mention in this post, let me know if you need more details from me to help me out.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Depending on where you live, you will have to register a company and file taxes. Additionally you want to have insurance policies in place if something happens. You want to have a solid business plan and potential customers before even starting out. You can easily loose a lot of money that way.

My brother and i used to run game servers when CS was not Go if you know what I mean. Long term we needed employees to handle user tickets and that was not in the budget so we scaled down to clients we knew personally and then offered them to take over the server leases and shut down the business after a couple of months.

You can potentially make real money but you will have to rent several servers. setup redundant solutions and make sure you have 24/7 support as well as features other providers do not offer. I have a company and I gladly pay 15.- a month for 5Gb webhosting, having the peace of mind that the website is available on 2 backup servers in different locations as well as having daily backups scheduled and a preferred line to a support agent.

So making a cheaper offer or one that includes more things out of the box may not net you more paying customers, at least not long term.

If you already have a customer base and offer simple things like webmail etc. you maybe able to run it as a non-profit or something like it. But if you want to make a living, you will have to do a lot of research and know your operating costs beforehand.
