Ive had this pc for around a month and I wanted to overclock my ram to the freq the ram states it is supposed to be, which is 3600, but when i try to enable xmp and set the freq to anything above 2133 and press save and reset, the pc doesnt reset and nothing pops up meaning it does not boot to bios at all. I have to turn it off and then it will go to bios but the overclock isnt successful. Could anybody out there know the problem?

Motherboard - Asus b250f strix

GPU - GTX 1060 6bg

Processor - Intel i7-6700k @ 4.00GHz, 4 cores

Memory - G.skill Ripjaws 8gb x 2 3600 freq

Thank you to anyone that helps.

Sounds like xmp isn't stable and the board reverts back to stock. That sound about right?

Two things.

First, check your motherboards support page for a more up to date bios. Sometimes memory stability gets fixed in newer bios's.

Also. Have you tried enabling xmp then manually setting the frequency lower than 3600mhz? For example turn on xmp then manually set it to 3000mhz and test it then.

I have does what you suggest, i have turned on xmp and set it to literally 2200 freq and the pc wont turn on when saving the settings and reseting. I dont know how to see if there is a newer bios though any suggestions there?

The most recent, non beta, revision for your bios is v1207. It was brought out in 2018/09/28. It can be found here.

You can check with your bios to see what revision you are on.

Also, it sounds like you haven't flashed your motherboard bios since you've got it. Is that correct? Because there are several bios files available for your board and some have memory stabillity fixes.

That motherboard only supports up to 2400 MHz RAM, You might also be having issues with the CPU, as that also only reads speeds up to 2133 MHz.

Run it at base speeds of 2133 MHz and you shouldn't have any issues, as that motherboard is quite old now I doubt any BIOS updates will allow the RAM to hit 3600 MHz without the Motherboard or CPU not being able to keep up.

So are you saying I cant overclock with he components I have even with updating the BIOS?

Yes, sadly the motherboard and CPU cannot handle 3600 MHz RAM speeds which is to be expected from a board and CPU combo that has been discontinued for several years now
