Like nanner said, try RMA first. If you can't (warranty overdue), and you're getting a new pair, go for analog plug ones (the one with standard 3,5mm audio jack). I've had this problem with my wireless mouse. The electricity on my USB jack spiked, destroying the receiver dongle. Now I got 2 perfectly functional wireless mouse with dead receivers just sitting at my desk.

Your motherboard should have a fuse to prevent that from happening. O.o you should probably talk to your mobo support.

Well, it's a 2+ years old (around 3) mobo, so I'm thinking ahead and guessing they'd say, 'it has degraded and start to malfunction. Unfortunately your warranty expired, so it's not covered', or something like that :)

That's a shame. But yeah that shouldn't be happening because motherboards are usually highly regulated which is why it is recommended to charge phones on them instead of in an outlet.
