Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: SOLIDWORKS 2022 with SWOOD (Ocasionaly gaming: Destiny 2, COD MW3, Tom Clancy The Division 2, Satisfactory, if possible STAR CITIZEN)

Other details: Must be 17inch laptop I work offsite frequently

 

For my work I would need powerful laptop and if possible for a few years  ahead. I am not found of any brand I currently use HP Zbook 17inch i7-8750H, 16GB RAM,

It can go all the way from a legion 5 or 7 17 inch to a hp zbook, dell precision,... but we need more information as solidworks is a very varied worksuite and depending on the level of complexity it will massively vary for what laptop is needed.

 

Either way for gaming a simple legion 5 17 inch with a 5800h + 16gb ram + 3060 will more than do.

If you can wait for like 3 months there may be alder lake laptops tanking anything you buy know

I have an ASUS G14 2021 with Manjaro KDE and I am a professional Linux NoOB and also pretty bad at General Computing.

I will be operating with larger files for project.. We have woodworking addin SWOOD on end  also CAM function and PDM grom Solidworks.

I sincerly cant tell how large files will this be.

It’s not the file size it’s the complexity of the models.
