Alright, so;

I've posted a question related to this subject in the past, (I have the Gigabyte A520i-AC which has a 2.5gbps LAN port)

but I'd like to know if I'm able to take full advantage of my 100/20 connection using a 2.5gbps router.

I ask this because I get roughly 6.4mbps max download speed through steam and whatnot by using my (gigabit) OEM provided router: the Netcomm NF18Mesh.

Would I be able to pair a 2.5gbps switch with the OEM router? Or would I have to purchase a 2.5gbps capable router.

I'm open to suggestions.

Even a 100 megabit Fast Ethernet NIC could take full advantage of your 100/20 Internet connection. (What kind of Internet connection is it?)

How is your PC connected now, WiFi or Ethernet?

Have you run a speed test using a machine plugged into your existing router via Ethernet? Are you sure you're getting the speeds you're provisioned for by your ISP?

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

I'm connected by ethernet, using the google speed test plugin & ookla speed test i'm getting 50mbps(down) & 15mbps(up). So no, im not getting my advertised speeds, especially with my downloads.

If you're getting a gigabit link between your PC and router, upgrading your router to 2.5 gig isn't going to make a difference. Your LAN isn't the bottleneck.

What kind of WAN connection do you have? What's the next step up the chain from there?

Do you know what technology they use?  If its also copper based, could still be a distance/line quality problem.
