Ethernet to USB-C?

Go to solution Solved by GhostRoadieBL,

yes, pretty much any usb-c or even usb-a to ethernet will work. based on the laptop you probably want to look at a hub so you get a few more usbs for around the same price as most ethernet adapters

Well, I think the more common term would be USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

I'm not sure, but to what I know, Thunderbolt 4 is backwards compatible with USB4, USB-C 3.2 and Thunderbolt 3, but you have to check your user manual of your device to make sure it is compatible. You may also need to adjust the BIOS setting as well. This is because Thunderbolt and USB uses different protocol even though they are almost identical in pin outs.

According to the manual (https://dl.dell.com/content/manual40060061-inspiron-15-5518-setup-and-specifications.pdf?language=en-us&ps=true), it seems that your system are compatible. I'm not sure if this can be done automatic or you need to set the BIOS first, though.
