Incremental Backup Software

Hi there,

I don't know if this is the right category to put my question in, since I'm new here, but I'm gonna create this topic here anyway.

I'm looking for an "easy" way to backup my computer (really just a private computer, not some sort of server). I have multiple drives installed, and the plan is to put the backups onto an internal HDD that I want to connect manually (for/against noise, energy, security). I would like to use a Linux program for this task but if you ask 10 Linux people, you will get 10 different replies.

Until now, I stumbled upon rdiff-backup, rsnapshot and borg. I don't fear the command line, so software without a GUI would be okay.

I really tried to decide on a solution for over half a year now, but the longer I wait, the more I'm gonna need a backup.

Thank you for your advice.

I've personally used rsnapshot with good success. The advantage for me is that the backup is accessible without any special tools, so you can e.g. easily copy back a single file if needed. The ones I know of would be: rsnapshot, borg, restic, Bareos

The best backup is the one you do have 😉 You can worry about finding a more perfect solution once your files are safe.

Thanks. I just finished setting up rsnapshot and did the first backup (with this software, don't worry).
