So my friend was having problems with his HDD and we were also planning on upgrading his computer (New ram, ssd and a new nic) so as I was taking out his HDD I decided to take a look at one of the two ram sticks just to see what brand it was and so on. However once I placed the ram stick back in and booted on the computer it was only detecting 2 out of the 4gb. If i go into windows it tells me I have 4gb but only 2gb is usable. CPUZ also says the same story however it says that the computer is only running in single channel mode. Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.80GHz

MOBO: Asus P7P55D-E LX

RAM: 2x2gb kingston ram (I think its value ram or whatever its called)

GPU: GTX 460

If any more info is needed let me know

what version of windows and include what version, 32 or 64 bit?

I don't remember if this i5 had onboard video....onboard video typically will reserve some of the ram, but 50% sound a bit suspect.

have you tried to to reseat both ram sticks in their original slots?

Edit: after further investigation, this i5 760 does not have onboard graphics.

Its windows 7 home premium 64bit. And I only took one of the sticks of ram out and when I noticed that the problem had occurred I took the stick out and put it back in again. Should I try and take out both sticks and put them both back in?
