Is this worth to fix? Blew up after measuring 220V in amp measure mode.

HQuan

depending on what's blown

but most multimeter i know have fuses to protect the internals in situation like these, so just have to change the fuse if that's the case

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

My multimeter don't have fuse on amp mode. It only have one on voltage mode (and it didn't get blown).

Also, that multimeter is from Russian. IN RUSSIAN THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS SAFETY.

Like, you tried to measure from one pin to the other of a 220V socket in amperage mode!? What were you trying to find out? How many amps a dead short would pull? A lot, as it turns out, and it vaporized parts of your DMM.

Dude, I have a Master degree in EE and bach. degree in applied sciences.

That's was just a "Level 3" accident with the thanks of 0.03ms MCB. I was too sleepy and put it in the main socket...

Trash it.

You can get multimeters which are still not ideal/unsafe for 220V RMS but much safer then this for under $20.

That's where a good multimeter saves your life.

Also the fuse in this thing wouldn't change anything in this situation. For these situation you need different kind of fuses to prevent it from arching.

I agree.

Fun fact: I actually shorted out the powerline and measure current with my oscilloscope. In Vietnam: 12997A (with + 20% accurate) in a milisecond before the circuit breaker trips.

An EE should know not to use such a meter on mains.
