I built a computer for my brother on new years eve and there were some issues with it rebooting and I tried some different RAM and it was still crashing, I talked to some friends and discovered it may have been a problem with the VRM so I went to get a new motherboard from micro center and it was still rebooting but not as much.

Parts:

- Motherboard: MSI MAG x570 TOMAHAWK WIFI

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
- GPU: well this is pretty self explanatory
- RAM: Crucial Ballistix RGB

- Storage: WD Blue SN550 1TB M.2 NVMe
- PSU: G.Skill 650w

I've tried different RAM and a different Motherboard, I have updated the BIOS to the latest stable version.

Have you tried resetting cmos and doing different ram combinations? putting 1 piece of ram in at a time, rebooting… are you sure the sticks aren’t the issue, are they new? also make sure every cord is plugged in well and nothing is slightly sticking out. i’ve had many reboot situations and some were solved by me not seeing a MB cord or something wasn’t fully plugged in in the right order. also is it booting to anything or just booting for 1 second then shutting off as in it shows nothing almost

Yes, I've removed the CMOS battery and used different RAM in different slots, they are new, I made sure to check all the cords were in there tight. Its able to boot into windows, it's fine idle but under stress it'll reboot after a while.

I'm not sure what this means.

Are you using the igpu on the 5700g?

Yeah there were none in stock or else we would have gone for 5800x

What are the cpu/igpu temperatures like?

The most I've noticed before crash is 60C

Do you have the cpu power plugged into the top left corner of the board? (I'm not sure the system would even run without it, but it's worth checking)

Yes, I left it running with a certain window up for 8 hours and it remained on, but after about 30mins under load it crashes

What are you specifically running when it crashes, and exactly what does the system do? (Ie..restart, shut down, black screen, etc)

I was stress testing with Prime95 and it was showing 4 cores fail and then 2 more after a while the computer would just reboot

How does it run with practical applications and/or benchmarks such as heaven/cinebench?

Ran some of these here are the crash times

Heaven: didn't crash

Prime95: 10.43s

Cinnebench: 4.5s

When I ran the prime95 stress test it showed 4 of the cores crashing at first and then 2 others and then the 2 remaining core, which then it crashed. I have a deep feeling it's a problem with the CPU at this point, I've tried different RAM in different slots and another motherboard

Is the cpu still under warranty?

Another possibility is the psu, as the crashes occur under heavy load.

I would try swapping the psu, and if it still crashes, rma the chip.

Yeah I built it new years eve/day and everything has 30days, I dont have another PSU laying around currently, and plan on replacing the CPU this weekend.
