Hey LTT Community,

I could use some advice from those willing to give it. I spent some time poking through the different forum's areas and didn't see anything along these lines but if I should be somewhere else let me know. I recently bought a Viewsonic TD1655 portable display. I was wanting to use it when traveling (if that ever happens again) but also as a secondary display for my work and play systems. I would like to use the USB C function of the monitor to connect to my devices so that I can have a single cable, but I am running into a challenge doing so.

  • My work system is a Dell precision 5530 connected to a Dell WD19TB Dock, it has a USB C DP Input 1 HDMI, and 2 display ports. It appears that the HDMI and USB C DP inputs are somehow shared with my monitor connected over HDMI and the Viewsonic connected over USB C I can only get a display on the Viewsonic.
    • Note I would switch my monitor to DP but for some reason when I do that, I cannot consistently get the full resolution 5120x1440
  • My play system is an Alienware M15 Ryzen edition, and it only has a single USB C DP input which my monitor is already using.

My initial thought was to see if there was a DisplayLink Adaptor of sorts that would take USB C input that I could plug into an available USB type A port, but I am not seeing anything out there that might do that.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Damon
