Hey guys I really need your help!

My pc:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

OCZ Platinum Low-Voltage DIMM Kit 4GB, DDR3-1333, CL7-7-7-20 (2x2GB)

OCZ Vertex 2 64GB Boot drive

Western Digital Caviar Blue 640Gb

Gigabyte ga-ma770t-ud3p

AMD HD 5850

500W Cooler Master Silent Pro

Asus Xonar DX

I set all overclocks and settings back to default.

What happened?

A few days ago my mouse and keyboard suddenly froze while surfing the web. No input was possible.

I pressed "reset" at my case and after the POST screen it said "no boot device found".

I switched my pc completely off, waited a few seconds and pressed power. It booted normally into windows.

After maybe a minute in Chrome the same freezing happened again.

This freezing also occured when I just let the pc sit in idle for a few minutes and also in Safe Mode.

I decided to reinstall Windows 7 as I don't save any important data on my boot drive.

Problem now:

When trying to reinstall Windows 7 from a USB drive I get an error message during the install process:

"Windows cannot access the installation sources. Make sure the installation sources are accessible and start the installation process again."

(I translated this from the german error message, picture below)

once I also got a different message with this error code: 0x80070037

https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3txtpcm9hjuy57/Foto%20%281%29.JPG

This error occurs at different percentages.. sometimes 50%, 67% or even 99%

What I have tried so far:

- Check my RAM with memtest86 (both modules single and together for one hour each. no errors)

- Tried to install with only one RAM module.

- Tried different USB drives, different Windows 7 ISOs, 32 & 64 bit (I'm pretty sure that's not the problem)

- Connected the SSD to different SATA ports. Disconnected all other SATA devices.

- Disabled AHCI.

- Tested the SSD with Parted Magic: short test: no errors, long test stopped because it couldn't read some s.m.a.r.t. information...

(smart is enabled in bios)

I have the feeling this problem has something to do with my SSD.. but how can I be sure? The SSD is about 3 years old. Would this be a typical behavior if it was dying?

Thanks a lot in advance guys! I really need your help!

Do you have the USB plugged into a USB2 port on the motherboards rear I/O?

Don't use USB3 or front I/O

I remember once I had to reformat and recreate the partition on the USB drive to get it to work using command prompt.  Linus covered doing that in this video. Failing that try re-downloading the ISO.  I think its more likely to be a USB or ISO problem than an SSD issue.  As for the freezes you were having in chrome are you using a wifi card assuming not seeing as you didn't list it in your spec, but I was having crashes when browsing the web and turned out my wireless card was messed up.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the steps in Linus' video. Until now I used programs like "universal usb installer"

I use ethernet, not wifi.

The freezes didn't only occur whil using chrome. Also when trying to copy the Windows files to my usb drive (i had to use a different computer for that) or doing random stuff. But that is less important right now. First I need to get Windows running again. I'll try Linus' tutorial now and see if it works.

Okay it worked!

When using Linus' tutorial i got to the point when the installation was finished and the computer had to reboot. After that I still couldn't get into windows (some error, files missing) and sometimes a bluescreen.

I found some tips to shut the computer off when the reboot was about to happen, disconnect all usb devices (even mouse and keyboard), power it back on and then it worked!

Really strange because I've reinstalled windows on this pc like 10 times and never had this kind of problems...

But it works now :) thanks for the help!
