Please help me out with the wording. Do you want to copy them to your NAS and play them off if it? Is that what you're saying?

Sorry about that I realize it wasn't worded well.

I want to store all the game files on my external storage and then when I want to play them I would copy them to the steamapps/common/

They would be run off my SSD for speed.

Why not just play them from the external drive? I'd imagine copying games over to your SSD every time you want to play to be a waste of time.

My external storage is much slower than my ssd and I only really play a handful of games that would be on my ssd 90% of the time. This would be better for games that I play rarely and I'd be better off using the storage for programs.

Well, that would kill the SSD sooner, and it would actually probably be more time efficient just to keep them on the NAS and find a way to run them from there.

That would be okay until I get my external hdd which should be fast enough for games like bf4 with long load times atm on my old hdd that will be decommissioned before my next build.

@tmcclelland455 is right. All those writes will wear down the SSD.

Why can't you go into the Steam Settings and change the install directory? Then you won't need to copy files back and forth.

Why can't you go into the Steam Settings and change the install directory? Then you won't need to copy files back and forth.

 

I agree with this, You can set up multiple library locations, and the games will default to wherever steam is installed, but you can choose a different location each time you install a game.
