Wrong cable?

So i recently got a asus matrix gtx 980 ti and the power cable seems to have 2 pins on the end that are switched around, would this mean my power supply is old and i need a different one? The cable fits into the graphics card just not the powersupply.

okay, so on modular supplies, the PSU end, and the device end rarely have the same pinout.  

So that doesn't mean there's a problem, as long as you have the correct cords for your PSU.  (PSU cables are only interchangable with very specific models, and are very much non-universal.)

You'd need a cable that came with your PSU, not a cable that comes with the GPU. The cable that comes with the PSU should have the PSU matching plug on one side and the GPU matching plug on the other end.

I got this pc second hand and the graphics card was plugged straight into the power supply so would i need to order an adapter thingy?

So the PC had already had a GPU and a power cable connected to the GPU? Is the plug different on your new GPU so you can't reuse the old cable?

That's normal.  Most GPUs plug into the power supply.  

Now I'm confused, what's the problem?

The green plug was for the old graphics card and the 2 inserts on the left hand are switched round so it doesn't fit in

There are 2 different 8 pin connectors, one is for the GPU, the other is for the motherboard.  Don't fuck up which is which.

that blue end is 100% the GPU connector.

Yes for the old graphics card but doesn't work with the new one as its 2 8pins rather then the one 6 pin

Clip the two parts of the blue plug together and they should fit into one of the 8pins on the GPU. If the GPU has 2 8pins, then you'd need another cable (preferably one that fits into the red connector on the PSU) or some sort of adapter

Alright then back to the black plug you showd in the first post, what is on the other end of that cable? Maybe you can use that one as an adapter of some sort

Its a be quite and i couldn't tell you the model as i'm away from my pc

be quiet! Straight Power E7 or E8. At least 10 years old, groupregulated and not the best quality. Not reliable anymore. Replace it if you want to power a former high-end GPU with it.

This is the power supply and i was thinking of replacing it anyways
