When I open task manager and go to the performance tab, there's always a cpu usage spike ranging fro 60%-100% for just a split second. I thought it was probably just a software bug, but I double checked using realtemp, and sure enough the cpu gets instantly hotter for a moment as I open task manager. Does anyone else experience this?

*edit: if you look quick enough you can see that it's task manager under cpu processes itself that spikes the cpu usage for a split second after it's opened.

What process takes up so much CPU? Pictures?

Yeah, for me, Chrome takes up 500MB of 3.25 GB, 30% usage, and 4.5MB/s disk. Too much, eh?

A touch. Defragging Vista right now gives about 20% CPU, 50% of 2GB, and obviously as much disk as it can soak up.

Because youre launching taskmanager..

You see my cpu spiking aswell somewhat close to 100% orsomething:

This us exactly what I'm talking about. I tried opening all the other apps on my computer and nothing peaked 15% usage upon opening, yet taskmanager requires nearly the entire cpu's attention? I'm willing to bet it's just poor programming on Windows' end (if someone can explain why this happens then by all means go ahead, I'm curious).

Not poor programmed but awesome multithreaded. Go through the resource monitor lots of processes just contain one thread that would never ever use more than 25% on a quadcore/12.5% on a octacore but taskmngr.exe has like 18 threads that can push an octacore to 100%.

If it was singlethreaded, you wouldn't see your cpu spiking above 12.5% and you wouldn't be asking this question here :P

So you're saying that task manager needs to use all those threads to monitor all the processes of a quad core with 8 virtual threads?

No just saying that its very well multithreaded. If it only could use one core it would load way too slow like 10 seconds orsomething.
