Windows 8.1 locks up

Hi all, 

 

I'm having a rather weird issue with my laptop, specs of which are: C2D t9550, 3Gb ddr2 ram, 128Gb ssd, with Windows 8.1 pro.

 

Every once in a while, it will completely lock up.  Ctrl-Alt-Deleting does nothing, cursor completely frozen, everything freezes.  I can only recover from it by a hard restart(holding down the power button until it turns off).

 

Any suggestions?  I have all the latest updates for 8.1 installed.  Also, the locks ups don't appear to occur with one particular application.  It's happened to me while using chrome, Code Composer, Matlab, and others.

Did you upgrade another windows or is this a fresh install.

 

It's originally a fresh copy of windows 8.1 pro 64 bit that I installed onto the new SSD a few weeks ago.

May be some drivers conflicts, update the firmware on your ssd. Update video, chipset drivers etc. And if all else fails try startup repair on the windows 8 install disk. :D good luck
