I am planning a build for running a home Minecraft server, but I was wondering if anyone knows if a dedicated gpu does any of the processing for it? I already have a Ryzen 2600X lying around, a power supply, and an AMD R7 270 GPU. Just wondering whether that gpu will slow anything down regarding server lag or speed?

My budget is $250-350 USD for motherboard, RAM, and SSD. I would also like to have it mini ITX, but that's not necessary. I am willing to buy used items, so I've been checking ebay for a B450 mobo and 32gb of RAM.

Any advice of specs or things I should do? I know I need a nice strong internet connection, and I plan on running this 24/7. I also want to figure out how to reduce power consumption while keeping it powerful.

As for peripherals, I am just going to use the monitor, mouse, and keyboard I already have whenever I need to do something.

Hosting a Java minecraft server has no need for a GPU at all, in fact my server is entirely headless. Its my old 2700x MiniITX system with 16GB or RAM. Regularly has 5-15 people playing on it and the experience is pretty great, or so i'm told. I don't actually play myself.

Just running it in Ubuntu inside of a Docker container and its basically the only thing the server does so I gave Mincraft 12GB of RAM and that's been plenty. Probably overkill but power is cheap here.

Ryzen 7 7800x3D -  Asus RTX4090 TUF OC- Asrock X670E Taichi - 32GB DDR5-6000CL30 - SuperFlower 1000W - Fractal Torrent - Assassin IV - 42" LG C2 - Windows 11 Pro
