Why won't Forge work?

Whenever I try to run any version of Forge on Minecraft it just crashes. It says error code:0.

I do not have any mods installed. What should I do?

because Microsoft after taking over Mojang decided to screwed up a few things.

 

longer answer:

with the change over to microsoft accounts from mojang accounts part of this involved terminating the use of mods and forge for security / anti virus reasons  except i now cant find the link that stated it).

- my daughter lost her minecraft access completely.

- we had to use an older launcher to actually get the game to run, that was only see-able under a windows 10 environment. (something about win7/win10 compatibility)

- my son and i can no longer play local lan minecraft because of settings in the microsoft linked account.
