Power supply failure?

What are some of the symptoms of a power supply failure/failing/dying? I noticed a while ago that sometimes when I left my computer I would come back and it would just have been restarted, now my computer is just shutting down without warning. The screen goes black and my computer freezes (I can tell it freezes because I have a G510 keyboard and I have coretemp monitor on the screen which freezes). My computer will either restart itself within a minute or I will have to restart it. Is this a psu failure or something else?

The symptoms are what xxMichael listed plus those you stated (random shutdowns, restarts, etc.). You should take a look inside it (through the fan grill that is or you'll void your warranty if you open it... provided that it's still within the warranty... and if it's not then you probably have one of those generic PSUs which I hope to all things righteous and techy, you're not using). Anyway, I was saying to take a look inside for any leaky-like substance from the capacitors and whatnot because that may cause the PSU to kill your system. Now if you have a PSU from a reputable manufacturer, then it's probably one of those that came like that from the factory (don't worry, that kind of thing happens all the time). It does just shut down in the span of 3 hours it shut down 3 times. Also power still goes through my pc for a bit I can see fans and all the hardware still on.

Another big thing is be careful of brown outs or power sags. If you're machine is on the same breaker as something like an AC unit it can cause a dip in power. Can definitely mess up your PSU in the long run.
