Hey guy's so i have been buying new parts for my new build and i came across a small issue, i was planing to buy a asus rampage iv black edition + I7-4930K + corsair dominator platinum - 2400mhz.

But as i was compiling the list on pcpartpicker it flagged an issue saying:

"Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Ivy Bridge-E CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum."

now i am not going to pretend that i am the best overclocker on the internet but i am sure there is a way to increase the voltage through the bios, as i have never been through such situation i am also concerned whether is it actually going to identify the ram after initial booting of the system and going into bios or will i be stuck with the ram modules??

PS: i already got the board and the cpu so at this point i am committed  :ph34r:

@Harmer

YOu should have no issue with running your chosen memory though its voltage exceeds the intel recommendation. What it means is you're overclocking your RAM and will get no support from intel should you run across an issue in the future.

The setting for memory voltage is in the UEFI should be just below the CPU voltage iirc.  (And for reference, SB is also limited to 1.5V more or less, and I have been running 1,7V on DDR3 for neary 2 years without issue).

I don't think you mean to increase the voltage, what you wanted to say is decrease the voltage? I find that strange though as the RAM QVL for the rampage iv black edition has only RAM with 1.65v in it....http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2011/RAMPAGE_IV_BLACK_EDITION/R4BE_DRAM_QVL.pdf

I checked Gskill and their recommended memory has all @1.5v but one kit which is @1.65v....http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator?manu=29&chip=28&model=1935

I think it would be wise to get a kit of RAM from these lists or any other lists you may find.

thank you, just one more thing do i have to change the voltage manually throught the UEFI or will it do i automatically?

true the RAM QVL for the asus rampage are all a 1.65v but the limitation is the intel Ivy bridge-E only supporting up to 1.5v which is really weird since i don't think any one wouldn't overclock that cpu but anyway thx for the list.. :)

I have had it both ways on the same board, so I think it depends on the memory more than the board.  And what I mean by that is my Patriot Gamer 2 is supposed to run at 1.65V, but it defaults to 1.5V on my P8P67 WS Rev while my Samsung ram needs and defaults to 1.35V @ 1600MHz (Needs 1.7 to get 2400MHz stable, which is where I run it at).

Either way, it will not hurt to check the UEFI before you use the system to make sure everything is properly set. Takes less than 3 minutes to do so in most cases.

Right and also ASUS would not put 1.65v memory as compatible on an OCing motherboard but before you make your purchase i would contact ASUS support and enquirer about it to be sure.
