I started experiencing a weird issue with my RTX 2060 in mid/late October. In some games, I get really low frame-rates (between 2 and 10 FPS). The affected games are ;

  • Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 3
  • Heroes of the Storm
  • Destiny 2

I've run all three games in windowed mode with MSI Afterburner open alongside. In all three cases, GPU usage is not impacted by running the games, which would seem to imply the games are not using the GPU and instead trying to run on the CPU or integrated GPU (hence the rubbish frame rates).

I've tried a number of things to solve this ;

  • Disabled integrated GPU in both Windows and BIOS
  • Rolling back nVidia drivers to a point well before the issues began
  • Going into nVidia settings and ensure all points towards maximum performance
  • Upgrading to Windows 11 (in case it was a compatibility issue between a graphics card driver and Windows)
  • Updating BIOS on my motherboard (similar reasoning to the above)

I've run out of ideas at this point, beyond a completely fresh install of Windows (in the event that a couple of pieces of software have had issues during updates and now don't play nice).

Any help the community can provide would be really appreciated.

Mate brought his rig round to mine, and we swapped components to confirm it was not a hardware issue.

This brought us to the point of a full system reinstall, which has subsequently cured the issue.

Must have been something pretty deep down inside the OS for it to only affect a few games, and everything else to run absolutely fine.
