XMP is the Xtreme memory profile. It contains the information for your memory overclock settings. For instance, if you bought 3200MHz RAM and didn't enable XMP, it's probably running at 2133MHz instead. 

 

That said, not every kit will run at its XMP settings depending on the strength of the memory controller on the CPU. If you have anything newer than Skylake and speeds less than 3200MHz, then it should work no problem (except if you have 1st or 2nd gen Ryzen), but anything faster might require you to mess with settings to get it to work. 

 

Either way, you should still probably try to enable XMP.
