I need an opinion, basically i installed another 8gb of ram making it 16gb, but i got this new ram as a gift. The one before was running at around 2950mhz but the new one is 2666mhz. Now both of them are running 2666 dual channel. My question is, does it actually pay off because there is 300mhz difference. I use my pc for work gaming, nothing too hardcore.

What processor do you have and what graphics card? Losing ~10% of your RAM speed isn't ideal, but it doesn't always cause a big performance loss depending on the parts and programs you use.

I have gtx1650 4gb, i5-10400 if im not wrong. I play games mostly fromsoftware also gta, some racing games and i used to play apex. I use autocad, fl studio, netflix and browsing in general.

If you have two memory modules with different speeds, both of them will run at the latter speed.

What motherboard chipset do you have? H410/B460 are locked to JEDEC 2666 for 10400.

If you have a Z490/B560/Z590 then you will have unlocked memory support.

Either way, 2x8 2666mhz > 1x8 2950mhz for your use case.

Im not sure what motherboard chipset i have, and i wish i knew what your talking about after hahahah. Anyway if you think 2x8 2666mhz is superior, i am fine with that.
