Motherboard screw stripped. Help!

Go to solution Solved by RyRyJS,

Thanks for the help everyone. But I found something so easy. I ordered some vampliers off of amazon and they literally removed the screw in less then 10 seconds. Its $30 for a pair of pliers but they work so so well. https://www.amazon.com/Professional-International-Vampliers-Portable-Extraction/dp/B006YJKAPQ

I might of just screwed it up even further. I have a screw that is 100% stripped and way beyond screwable. I’ve tried superglue (I know it was probably a terrible idea). None of it got on the nvme drive itself. But I can’t figure out how to remove it. Please, any ideas? Thanks so muchimage.thumb.jpg.4beb1b8508223bf0af187c4228deafdc.jpg

Superglue could have worked if you superglued the bit into the screw… but now you have an interesting issue. Also, those screws shouldn’t be that tight, not at all tight enough to strip…

But, now that your in this situation, may still be worth trying to superglue the bit to the surface. If you can get some good adhesion, should be enough to unscrew it. Also you can try and turn the part under the ssd with a pair of needle nose pliers potentially.

I would carefully dig out all that glue with a needle or fine tipped blade/icepick. Then super glue something inside or to it that you can grip with a pair of pliers to turn the screw. You will indeed have to make sure the glue is very dry before trying it, and be sure to use strong glue, or you will just break it right off most likely.

I don't know what tools you have available, but I suppose as a last resort you could cut a small notch in the rounded outside edge of the screw, and use that to get grip on it with something. Or stick something in the notch to try and twist it just enough to loosen it a bit so its easier to try and unscrew the rest of the way with your fingers or something.

You should be able to remove the standoff from underneath the SSD with a pair of thin needlenose pliers then once the standoff is free the entire SSD will release and you can try to remove the screw away from everything else.
