Not sure if this should be the right forum for this but after watching today's LTT I wanted to follow-up on the cables that were mentioned as the planned future state.  I know the current state was optical thunderbolt to a dock that then drove display and all periph's.  It was mentioned at the end about optical video being separate and wanted to learn a bit more about that.   Currently planning out a new house with the goal of having a mechanical room and a rack with all the gaming rig's.  I was originally planning to be similar with the optical thunderbolt but curious about other options if anyone has insight to what they were talking about.

I'm not totally sure, but I think they used to and plan to run a separate optical thunderbolt cable for DisplayPort and another thunderbolt cable just for the I/O

So still require some sort of dock/adapter for the video.  I know they make optical HDMI but wasn't sure if that was the idea or not.  Thanks for the response.

Yeah. I think in Linus's case it is handled on the Thunderbolt card.

Optical HDMI cables just have the adapters built in.
